
New Delhi, July 28: Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India’s space sector is leveraging its existing expertise and the energy of a new generation of innovators, strengthening the country’s global leadership in this field. This statement was made by Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal.
After meeting with Pawan Kumar Chandana and Naga Bharat Daka, co-founders of Skyroot Aerospace, the minister expressed pride in their historic success with the Vikram-1 mission. Vikram-1 is India’s first privately developed and successfully launched orbital rocket, marking a significant milestone in the nation’s space journey.
Piyush Goyal shared on social media platform X, “Signing the postcard in support of the Vikram-1 mission on June 10, 2026, was a memorable moment for me. What began as a small step of encouragement has now become a symbol of India’s extraordinary journey.”
He mentioned that discussions during the meeting focused on the future direction of India’s space sector. Emphasis was placed on strengthening the space startup ecosystem and creating an environment where the country’s most talented engineers prioritize innovation and manufacturing within India.
The co-founders of Skyroot also met with Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. The company stated, “India’s deep-tech ecosystem is advancing rapidly due to visionary reforms, world-class digital infrastructure, and a strong commitment to innovation. Skyroot is proud to contribute to the development of global-level space technology from India. We look forward to the day when chips made in India will fly in our rockets.”
Earlier, the Skyroot co-founders had met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, discussing technology, long-term vision, and future opportunities for India’s private space sector.
The co-founders remarked, “Prime Minister Modi’s encouragement for young entrepreneurs and his trust in India’s growing innovation ecosystem continuously inspires us.”
Prime Minister Modi noted that the success of the Vikram-1 mission was a major topic of discussion during the meeting, along with several other important issues.
He stated, “It was a pleasure to hear about their journey so far and their thoughts on the future. Their energy, ambition, and positive outlook reflect the vibrancy of India’s private space ecosystem. I wish the entire Skyroot team the best.”
