Sawai Madhopur is hosting India’s first-ever Guava Festival on the occasion of its 263rd foundation day. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will inaugurate the event at 11 AM, marking a significant milestone for the district and the state.
Celebrating Agriculture and Wildlife Heritage
This year, the foundation day celebrations have been uniquely combined with both the Tiger Festival and the Guava Festival, highlighting Sawai Madhopur’s rich wildlife heritage alongside its renowned guava cultivation. This dual celebration gives the event a vibrant and distinct identity.
Guava Cultivation: A Pillar of Local Economy
Dr. Kirodi Lal Meena, Minister of Agriculture and Horticulture, expressed pride in hosting the country’s first guava festival. He emphasized that the festival is more than a ceremonial occasion; it serves as a national platform to showcase farmers’ hard work and the agricultural strength of the district.
Currently, guava is cultivated on over 15,000 hectares in Sawai Madhopur, producing approximately 400,000 metric tonnes annually. This has created a robust agricultural economy generating business worth 600 to 700 crore rupees every year.
Dr. Meena expressed confidence that the festival will help establish Sawai Madhopur as a major centre for guava production and export. The event aims to connect farmers with markets, technology, and policy support, fostering a convergence of knowledge, innovation, and opportunity.
Focus on Modern Farming and Value Addition
The festival will feature sessions and demonstrations on modern and smart farming practices, agricultural mechanization, drone technology, high-tech horticulture, processing, and value addition. Farmers will gain insights into the latest innovations in cultivation.
A key attraction will be an exhibition of value-added guava products such as juices, jellies, squash, pulp, sweets, chutneys, and pickles. Additionally, there will be displays of various guava varieties, fruit and flower competitions, and live demonstrations of farming equipment.
More than 20 nurseries from different states will participate, while approximately 200 stalls will showcase organic and natural farming, horticulture techniques, animal husbandry, and dairy-related activities. This makes the Guava Festival a comprehensive showcase of agricultural practices.
