Bengaluru, April 24: Hockey India announced on Friday that a special goalkeeping camp for the Indian women’s hockey team is currently underway at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) in Bengaluru, running from April 22 to May 2. The camp is being conducted by David Williamson, under the supervision of the team’s head coach, Sjoerd Marijne.
Goalkeepers Savita, Bansari Solanki, Bichu Devi Kharibam, and Madhuri Kindo are participating in this special camp, aimed at strengthening India’s goalkeeping unit ahead of an important international calendar. The camp is supported by Anandana, the Coca-Cola India Foundation, which is contributing to the development of women’s hockey in India. They also recently supported the 16th Hockey India Sub-Junior Women’s National Championship 2026.
David Williamson is a highly experienced hockey coach from Northern Ireland, who has been part of the coaching staff for the U.S. women’s national team for a significant period. He also served as an assistant coach for the Odisha Warriors in the 2025 Women’s Hockey India League (HIL), gaining valuable international experience in goalkeeping development.
Sjoerd Marijne, the chief coach of the Indian women’s hockey team, stated, “The goalkeepers performed exceptionally well during the recent tour in Argentina, showcasing strong performances against top teams. With important tournaments approaching in June, this training camp is timely.” He added, “Our junior team goalkeepers also train alongside senior players. This experience will be invaluable for their development and will help prepare them for senior-level competition.”
Experienced Indian goalkeeper Savita expressed, “Support like this for women’s hockey is always encouraging for us as players. It also presents a fantastic opportunity for young athletes coming up through the system. When young girls see the support hockey is receiving today, it boosts their confidence and belief that they can achieve great things. Support from Anandana, the Coca-Cola India Foundation, will undoubtedly play a crucial role in advancing women’s hockey in the country.”
Devayani Rana, Vice President of Public Affairs, Communication, and Sustainability at Coca-Cola India and Southwest Asia, remarked, “Our partnership with Hockey India is based on a shared belief that investing in women’s sports creates lasting change. When junior players train in a positive environment alongside senior athletes, it reshapes their understanding of the possibilities ahead. Through Anandana, the Coca-Cola India Foundation, we are committed to being a meaningful part of the grassroots change for Indian women’s hockey.”
