Shenzhen, September 1: At the BWF China Masters 2026, Singapore’s Loh Kean Yew delivered a stunning performance, defeating China’s Shi Yuqi in straight games, 21-11, 21-10. The match, held in Shenzhen, lasted just 30 minutes, marking Shi’s exit from the tournament in the first round for the second consecutive event following the World Championships.
The clash between the sixth-seeded Shi Yuqi and Loh was one of the highlights of the opening day, as both players are former world champions, having won titles in 2025 and 2021, respectively. However, Shi struggled throughout the match.
In another match, Chinese player Hu Zhe’an faced a setback against Denmark’s fifth-seeded Anders Antonsen, who made a comeback to win 19-21, 21-11, 21-16.
In the women’s singles, China’s Han Qianxi easily defeated Taiwan’s Pai Yu-po with a score of 21-10, 21-9. She will next face South Korea’s top seed An Se-young, who advanced by beating Taiwan’s Lin Hsiang-ti 21-11, 21-3. Thailand’s Pornpawee Chochuwong was eliminated by Taiwan’s Chiu Pin-chien, losing 21-14, 21-15.
In men’s doubles, the top-seeded South Korean pair of Kim Wan-ho and Seo Seung-jae also exited in the first round, falling to Indonesia’s Leo Rolly Carnando and Daniel Marthin with a close score of 21-19, 21-19.
In mixed doubles, China’s top seeds Feng Yanzhe and Huang Dongping triumphed in a thrilling match against Japan’s Yuta Watanabe and Maya Taguchi. The contest extended to a decisive game, where Feng and Huang saved six match points before securing a 27-25 victory, advancing to the last 16.
