Dubai, September 1: Sri Lankan captain Chamari Athapaththu has reached her career-best ratings in all three categories of the ICC Women’s T20 Player Rankings, following an outstanding performance in the Women’s Asia Cup 2026.
On August 29, Athapaththu showcased her all-round skills against the UAE. She scored an unbeaten 48 runs off 25 balls and took one wicket for just 10 runs in three overs. Her remarkable performance led the team to a convincing 9-wicket victory.
As a result, Athapaththu has achieved 734 rating points in batting, 552 in bowling, and 405 in all-rounders, marking her best-ever position. She currently ranks sixth among T20 batters, climbed three spots to 33rd in the bowling rankings, and remains third among all-rounders.
This achievement follows her impressive showing in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup earlier this year, where she scored 172 runs and took three wickets for Sri Lanka. Her opening partner, Imesha Dulani, also made significant strides in the latest rankings. After scoring 25 runs off 18 balls against the UAE, Dulani moved up four places to 18th with 625 rating points. Meanwhile, Harshitha Samarawickrama climbed one spot to 23rd among batters.
Sri Lankan bowlers benefited from their strong opening match in the tournament. Mithali Ayodhya took three wickets for just 14 runs, limiting the UAE to a score of 79. This performance elevated her 18 places to 70th, achieving a career-best score of 444 points. Left-arm spinner Sugandhika Kumari also excelled, taking two wickets for 18 runs and moving up five spots to 23rd.
Players from other teams in the Women’s Asia Cup also saw improvements. Thailand’s Nannapat Koncharoenki climbed one spot to 29th after scoring 41 runs off 48 balls against India. Suliporn Laomi made a significant jump in the bowling rankings, rising five places to a joint 63rd after taking three wickets for 26 runs.
Bangladesh’s impressive 71-run victory over Indonesia led to further ranking changes. Shobhana Mostari ascended one spot to 39th with a career-best 500 points, while fast bowler Marufa Akhtar climbed two places to 37th after taking two wickets for just six runs in three overs.
Indian fast bowler Nandini Sharma also made significant gains, moving up 38 places to 112th after taking three wickets for 18 runs against Thailand.
The latest rankings also highlight the impressive performances of players from associate nations. Isle of Man’s Lucy Barnett, who scored the most runs in the Continental Cup in Romania with 257 runs, climbed to a joint 67th. Romania’s Rebecca Blake, who scored 197 runs without being dismissed during the tournament, reached a joint 89th, boasting an impressive T20 batting average of 153.00 over 20 matches.
