New Delhi, October 3 (Daily Kiran) : Navpreet Singh, a key suspect in an international narcotics trafficking network, has been placed in police custody for ten days by the Rouse Avenue Court in New Delhi. He was deported from Turkey, where he allegedly operated under a false identity.
The Delhi Police requested this custody to further their investigation into Singh’s connections with drug trafficking networks spanning Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Maharashtra. Authorities stated that it is essential to interrogate Singh alongside previously arrested associates Ramandeep, Gurpreet, and Gurjot.
According to police reports, Singh had been hiding abroad using a forged identity. He is believed to have been a major handler for a drug syndicate based in Turkey. Allegations suggest that he used the alias “Nawab Virk” to acquire Turkish citizenship and orchestrated a network trafficking heroin and methamphetamine from Afghanistan to India.
Ongoing investigations in India have linked Singh to various drug-related criminal activities. Records from the Delhi High Court identify him as a kingpin of the alleged drug syndicate operating from Turkey. His name emerged during the investigation of a significant drug case in Delhi in 2021, which resulted in the seizure of approximately 355.5 kilograms of heroin.
During the investigation, Singh was identified as a primary suspect and handler operating from abroad. Punjab police have also connected him to a drug network allegedly managed from Turkey.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah praised the deportation of Singh as a significant achievement for the government, referring to it as a “historic accomplishment” of the Modi administration. He noted that Singh’s fraudulent identity facilitated his acquisition of Turkish citizenship and that he continued his involvement in drug trafficking operations.
Shah commended Indian agencies for locating Singh, revealing his true identity, and successfully deporting him back to India. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to dismantling drug cartels by December 2029.
In April, the Indian authorities also deported Mohammed Salim Dola, a suspected drug trafficker and associate of wanted gangster Dawood Ibrahim, from Turkey. Shah described that operation as a major success in bringing drug-related fugitives and organized crime syndicate members to justice.
