Demand for Reverification of PM Housing Scheme Beneficiary List in Jammu and Kashmir

Srinagar, October 3 (Daily Kiran) : Social activist Rafaqat Mir from Gundoh, Jammu and Kashmir, has called on officials to reverify the beneficiary list for the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G). His request aims to ensure that eligible families can access the benefits of this housing scheme.

In a conversation with a news agency on Saturday, Mir highlighted the government’s commitment to providing homes for the poor by 2026. He expressed that every family without a home should receive a permanent residence.

After a recent survey, many residents were optimistic when their names appeared on the PMAY-G list for the first time. However, this hope was dashed when, a few months later, during subsequent village meetings, some names were placed on a dispute list, preventing those families from receiving housing.

Mir noted that many residents in the Kahra area, particularly from 13 panchayats, have found their names disputed. He questioned how these disputes arose, as many of the affected individuals are among the poorest in the community.

He urged the local administration and the Assistant Commissioner Development (ACD) to clarify the basis for these disputes. The uncertainty has caused significant distress among the affected families, who are struggling to secure adequate housing. Mir emphasized the need for officials to address this issue promptly to assist those in dire need of homes.
