Cyclone Arnab Forces School Closures and Train Cancellations in Ranchi
Cyclone Arnab leads to school closures and train cancellations in Ranchi as safety measures are implemented.

Ranchi, October 27 (Daily Kiran) : A severe cyclonic storm named ‘Arnab’ has prompted significant safety measures in Jharkhand, particularly in Ranchi. The Indian Meteorological Department has placed Ranchi under an orange alert, warning of strong winds and heavy rainfall. In response, the district administration has ordered all schools to close from October 28 to 29.
The closure affects all government, private, and aided schools, impacting classes from kindergarten through 12th grade. Schools that have pre-scheduled examinations may choose to hold them or postpone, but must inform the district education officer in writing.
Despite the school closures, teachers are required to report to their schools to manage non-academic tasks and must mark their attendance on the e-Vidyavahini portal.
Additionally, the railways have canceled 14 major express and passenger trains running through Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and West Bengal for safety reasons. This includes significant routes like the Howrah-Jagdalpur Express and the Visakhapatnam-Kirandul Express, among others, with cancellations extending from October 27 to November 5.
The railway authorities have urged travelers to check the status of their trains through inquiry counters, helplines, or the National Train Inquiry System app before heading to the station, especially during this busy festive season.
