Assam Chief Minister Announces Action Against Child Marriage: 524 Arrested, 441 Cases Filed
Assams Chief Minister reports 524 arrests in child marriage crackdown, emphasizing the governments commitment to eliminate this illegal practice.

Guwahati, October 27 (Daily Kiran) : Assam’s Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Tuesday that 524 individuals have been arrested as part of the state’s ongoing crackdown on child marriage, with 441 cases filed. He emphasized that the government will not spare anyone involved in this illegal practice.
In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Sarma provided updates on the actions taken against child marriage by 5 PM on Tuesday. He stated, “We will not spare anyone involved in this heinous crime, and we will ensure that Assam is free from child marriage.”
This announcement comes as the state government intensifies its efforts to combat child marriage. Authorities are taking legal action against those allegedly facilitating or conducting such marriages.
Sarma noted that the crackdown had begun earlier than expected. He hinted that the next phase of the campaign might start in November, indicating that actions are already underway.
The Assam government has consistently stated that child marriage poses a serious threat to the health, education, and overall well-being of minors, particularly girls. This practice can lead to early pregnancies, health complications, and educational setbacks.
The recent arrests and filed cases reflect the ongoing efforts to eradicate this practice in the state. However, the government has yet to provide detailed district-wise statistics on social media.
This initiative is a crucial part of Assam’s anti-child marriage campaign, targeting individuals accused of violating laws related to the minimum legal age for marriage and associated offenses.
The government has reiterated its commitment to eliminating child marriage in the state, with Sarma stressing that legal action will be taken against those found involved.
These latest figures are expected to keep the issue in the spotlight as the state accelerates its efforts to prevent underage marriages and strengthen existing legal protections.
