Punjabs Drug Crisis: Harsimrat Kaur Badal Accuses AAP Government of Suppression

Harsimrat Kaur Badal criticizes Punjabs AAP government for failing to address drug issues and suppressing voices of affected families.

Chandigarh, October 27 (Daily Kiran) : The political landscape in Punjab is heating up as former Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal of the Shiromani Akali Dal has leveled serious accusations against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. In a video message shared on social media platform X, she questioned, “Have you ever heard of a state where the police mishandle a corpse? Welcome to Punjab under the drug traitor Bhagwant Mann. This is exactly what happened today.”

Badal alleged that a 35-year-old man named Daljit Singh from the village of Bhammey Kalan died from an apparent drug overdose, with police forcibly removing his body without the family’s consent. She stated, “Instead of taking action against drug traffickers and dealers, the police and the AAP government are silencing the voices of anti-drug campaigners and their grieving families. This is unbelievable, unacceptable, and inexcusable.”

Earlier, she had posted about another young person from Bhammey Kalan falling victim to drugs, claiming that the police were attempting to label the death as a case of “personal enmity.” When Daljit’s family tried to take his body to a protest site, they were stopped by authorities, who took the body away. Quoting the grieving family, Badal said, “Bhagwant Mann is a liar. Our son died from an overdose of ‘chitta’ (a form of heroin). We don’t want your money; we just want our son back. We don’t even know where the police have taken his body.”

She has urged the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to take immediate notice of this incident, asserting that the police under the AAP are waging a war against Punjab and its people, especially during such a painful time for the affected families.

In another post, Badal raised concerns about the deteriorating law and order situation in Punjab, pointing out, “Four murders. Four cities. One day.” She highlighted that just yesterday, four murders occurred in Moga, Amritsar, Patiala, and Ludhiana, indicating that such violent crimes have become commonplace.

Blaming Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for the rising crime and drug issues, she stated, “As Chief Minister and Home Minister, Bhagwant Mann should be ashamed of himself. He has completely failed on the two most critical fronts for Punjab: drugs and law and order. If he truly wanted to tackle drugs and crime, he could have done so, but he hasn’t, as the system and everyone in the AAP are profiting off the corpses of your own people.”
