Indian Navys IOS Sagar Arrives in Myanmar to Strengthen Maritime Cooperation

New Delhi, May 6: The Indian Navy’s Indian Ocean Ship (IOS) Sagar has docked at the Yangon port in Myanmar. This visit is part of India’s ongoing maritime engagement and collaborative strategy in the region.

Notably, this port call coincides with the visit of Indian Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi to Myanmar. His trip underscores efforts to bolster bilateral maritime relations between India and Myanmar.

Admiral Tripathi is in Myanmar from May 2 to May 5, where he has engaged in significant discussions with Myanmar’s Commander-in-Chief of the Navy, Admiral Tin Aung San. Prior to this, the Myanmar Navy formally welcomed Admiral Tripathi with a guard of honor.

This visit is seen as a crucial step towards strengthening the growing maritime ties between the Indian Navy and the Myanmar Navy. Discussions are taking place at various levels between the Navy Chief and senior Myanmar leadership. The focus is on reviewing bilateral maritime cooperation, enhancing operational coordination, and exploring new areas of collaboration between the two navies. This trip reaffirms India’s commitment to promoting maritime partnerships and collaborative engagement in the Indian Ocean region.

Additionally, the aim is to enhance naval cooperation, bolster maritime security, and promote mutual development and regional stability. Upon arrival in Yangon, the Myanmar Navy conducted a traditional and formal welcome for the IOS Sagar.

During this visit, the Myanmar Navy will host the crew of IOS Sagar. Important meetings between officials from both countries will be held, aimed at exchanging professional experiences and cultural understanding between the two navies.

Moreover, a visit to Myanmar Navy training institutions is also planned, where best practices related to operations and training will be shared. Friendly sports competitions between the naval personnel of both countries are also scheduled. The Navy believes that such activities will foster mutual cooperation and camaraderie.

The deployment of IOS Sagar aligns with India’s ‘SAGAR’ vision (Security and Growth for All in the Region). It reflects the Indian Navy’s commitment to promoting collaborative maritime security and partnerships in the Indian Ocean region.

This visit is also in line with India’s ‘Neighborhood First’ policy, which aims to establish strong and lasting relationships with regional countries.
