New Delhi, March 26: Islamic scholar and former Rajya Sabha member Asad Madani has expressed that Muslims in India currently feel surrounded, insecure, and humiliated. He emphasized that this situation has arisen not from a single incident but from a series of events.
Madani pointed out that in a country with a population of 1.4 to 1.5 billion, some incidents are not unusual. However, he expressed concern over the apparent bias in the attitudes of the administration, police, and government, whether at the state or central level. He stated that it is particularly alarming when those responsible for preventing injustice and delivering justice turn a blind eye.
He highlighted that during Eid, many individuals were prevented from offering prayers on the streets, especially in Uttar Pradesh, where such incidents were more prevalent. Madani questioned whether praying on the street is wrong or a crime. He added that if the government establishes a rule against any religious activity on the road, it should apply equally to all.
Regarding the demand to declare the cow as the national animal, he mentioned that Maulana Arshad Madani had previously supported this, urging the central government to take action in this regard.
On the issue of alleged Bangladeshi infiltrators in Assam, Madani agreed that no foreign citizen should reside in India without valid documentation. He advocated for the fair expulsion of such individuals through legal processes. However, he also accused the Chief Minister of Assam of suggesting that even he should be sent back to Bangladesh. He noted that discontent and unease regarding this process exist not only among Muslims but also within other communities.
Concerning the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), Madani stated that he has not yet reviewed the complete document. He mentioned that responsible members of the organization would provide an official response only after reading it.
