Indian Knowledge Tradition Takes Center Stage with Modis Diplomatic Gesture

Varanasi, June 19: Renowned Hindi poet and head of the Nagari Pracharini Sabha, Vyomesh Shukla, has hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent gesture of presenting the Charak Samhita and Sushruta Samhita to the Speaker of the Slovak Parliament as a significant step towards the global dissemination of Indian knowledge traditions. He emphasized that this initiative is not merely a diplomatic courtesy but a robust example of India’s intellectual and cultural diplomacy.

In an interview with a news agency, Shukla noted that Charak is regarded as the father of Indian medicine, while Sushruta is recognized as the pioneer of surgery. The exchange of such ancient texts on a global platform underscores the importance of India’s rich heritage, culture, and intellectual legacy.

He pointed out that in today’s technological age, books are becoming increasingly distant from the center of life. Therefore, it is crucial to revive the tradition of gifting and receiving books. Shukla expressed confidence that Modi’s initiative will promote the translation of Indian languages, literature, and ancient texts into foreign languages, thereby extending India’s intellectual wealth to a broader audience.

He further stated that the vast repository of Vedic literature, Ayurveda, Natya Shastra, music, and other Indian sciences is preserved in books. It is not enough to merely safeguard these texts; it is essential to read, understand, and share them with the world.

Vyomesh Shukla concluded by asserting that India has much to offer the world, and our ancient texts are living proof of that knowledge. This exchange of books will strengthen India’s hospitality, cultural harmony, and knowledge-based diplomacy.
