
Yerevan, August 18: Indian Defense Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh visited Armenia’s military academy on Tuesday. During his visit, he inspected a special IT lab established with India’s assistance. India has also provided various weapon systems to Armenia, and the Defense Secretary was briefed on these systems during his tour.
Singh highlighted the growing cooperation between India and Armenia in capacity building and training. He emphasized India’s commitment to support Armenia in areas of mutual interest. The collaboration in military education, training, and capacity building is considered a significant foundation for the bilateral defense partnership.
Earlier on the first day of his visit, Singh met with Armenian Defense Minister Suren Papikyan in Yerevan. Both sides discussed new areas and opportunities to strengthen bilateral defense cooperation. They reiterated their shared commitment to deepen and broaden the India-Armenia defense partnership. The discussions focused on existing defense cooperation and identifying new areas for future collaboration.
Singh also met with Armenia’s Chief of General Staff, Lieutenant General Edward Asryan. Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to enhance the defense partnership between India and Armenia. The meeting particularly emphasized advancing bilateral defense industrial cooperation and collaboration in defense research and development. They discussed enhancing prospects in defense production, technical cooperation, and research.
Rajesh Kumar Singh is on a two-day visit to Armenia. Upon his arrival in Yerevan, he was welcomed by the Indian Ambassador to Armenia and senior officials from the Armenian Defense Ministry. During his visit, Singh is engaging with Armenia’s political and military leadership. The aim of these meetings is to set the direction for future India-Armenia defense and strategic cooperation and to expand the existing defense partnership into new areas.
In recent years, defense cooperation between India and Armenia has significantly expanded, particularly in areas such as defense equipment supply, military training, capacity building, defense industry, and research and development. This visit by the Defense Secretary is seen as a crucial step towards institutionalizing and strengthening this growing collaboration.
