New Delhi, August 8: The Indian Defense Ministry has initiated concrete efforts to participate in the French-led sixth-generation fighter aircraft development program, known as the Future Combat Air System (FCAS). This information was shared in response to the Defense Standing Committee.
The committee previously emphasized the need for technological upgrades to enhance the strike capability of aircraft, considering the challenges of modern aerial warfare. They urged for a faster development and procurement process for sixth-generation aircraft.
In this context, the ministry has begun solid efforts to join the French-led FCAS program. A detailed status report regarding the acquisition of sixth-generation (6G) aircraft, along with a potential timeline for their procurement, is expected to be presented for the committee’s review.
Recognizing the necessity to bolster India’s aerial capabilities in today’s air-centric warfare, the committee also requested a progress report on the development and manufacturing of the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) to be included in the submitted action details.
