Ahmedabad, August 8: The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has successfully conducted an intensive 15-day campaign to clear public roads, footpaths, and highways of illegal encroachments. During this operation, 708 handcarts and stalls were removed, along with thousands of other unauthorized structures. The AMC also imposed an administrative fine of ₹8.62 lakh for violations.
The Estate Department carried out actions across all seven zones of the AMC from July 24 to August 7, targeting encroachments that obstructed public roads and affected traffic flow.
As part of this initiative, 313 illegal sheds and 1,066 tarpaulins were dismantled. Additionally, 1,987 advertising boards and approximately 5,196 other items were seized or removed from public thoroughfares.
The municipal body also took action against illegally parked vehicles during this campaign. A total of 1,159 vehicles were locked, and 10 vehicles were towed away. The department also removed 35 permanent structures that had been built on the roads.
In the western region, the operation covered areas including the Golden Triangle, Stadium Char Rasta, Swastik Char Rasta, Panchvati Five Roads, Parimal Garden Underpass, Naranpura Char Rasta, Ankur Char Rasta, and Shastrinagar.
In the north-west zone, officials acted on the route from Damaru Circle in Ghatlodia to Chanakyapuri Road and the Gujarat High Court complex. Actions were also taken on Judges Bungalow Road, Pakwan Char Rasta, Mansi Circle, Keshavbag, ISKCON Char Rasta, Thaltej, and Vaishno Devi Circle.
In the south-west zone, operations spanned from Kanyug Char Rasta to Shyamala Char Rasta, Prahlad Nagar, and the SG Highway area, as well as from ISKCON Circle to Ujala Circle. The east zone teams covered areas from Hastinapur, Hatkeshwar Circle Road, Rabari Colony, Nikol, Sonini Chali, Sarangpur Bridge, and Thakkarbapa Nagar to Jashoda Nagar.
The central zone included operations at Jamalpur Flower Market, APMC Market, Geeta Mandir, Kalupur Railway Station, Prem Darwaja, Delhi Darwaja, and Manik Chowk. In the north zone, actions were taken from Memco to Kuber Nagar, Hirawadi BRTS, Naroda Village, and New Naroda.
The AMC’s Estate Department has urged property owners, traders, shopkeepers, and vehicle owners not to encroach upon public roads and highways. The municipal body stated that strict action against encroachments obstructing public roads will continue in the coming days.
