Giridih, August 8: Union Minister for Women and Child Development, Annapurna Devi, has called on the Jharkhand government to promptly address the demands of protesting students. She emphasized that students and youth represent the future of the nation and the state, and their future should not be compromised.
Speaking to reporters, she noted that students in Jharkhand have been peacefully protesting for nearly 15 days. Despite facing rain and extreme heat, they have shown remarkable patience. With some students on hunger strike, the government must take the situation seriously. She urged for a thorough and immediate investigation into the allegations that have surfaced during the protests, calling for strict action against those found guilty. Students are fighting for their fundamental rights, and the government should listen to their concerns at this critical time.
Annapurna Devi also raised questions regarding the organization of competitive examinations in Jharkhand. She pointed out the growing dissatisfaction among youth concerning the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC), among other competitive exams. She alleged that deserving candidates are being denied their rightful opportunities, with serious accusations of seat selling emerging.
She highlighted that poor laborers and farmers often cut back on their basic needs to fund their children’s education, sending them to cities like Giridih, Hazaribagh, and Ranchi. If these students do not receive fair opportunities in examinations and recruitment processes, it would be a grave injustice to them.
On the occasion of World Tribal Day, the minister addressed the issue of development in Jharkhand, noting that it has been nearly 24 years since the state’s formation. Jharkhand was established with great hopes and expectations, yet the anticipated development is still lacking. There appears to be a significant shortfall in the current state of affairs.
Annapurna Devi remarked that the ongoing student movement includes youth from various sections of society, including students from tribal communities who are concerned about their future. The clear objective behind the formation of Jharkhand must be fulfilled, and the state government should work more effectively to create a transparent roadmap for development.
