Indian Companies Discover New Oil and Gas Reserves in Libya

New Delhi, April 28: A significant development has emerged for India’s energy sector. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas announced via an official post that Indian companies have discovered new oil and gas reserves in Libya.

According to the ministry, this discovery was made in the Ghadames Basin, specifically in contract area 95/96. The project involves Oil India Limited and Indian Oil Corporation Limited as Indian consortium partners, while the Algerian company SIPC (Société Algérienne de Promotion des Investissements) operates the project.

The well was drilled to a depth of 8,440 feet. During testing, it produced 13 million cubic feet of gas and 327 barrels of condensate (oil-like liquid) daily. This production was sourced from the Avinat Waning and Avin Kaja formations.

The ministry highlighted this achievement as a strong example of the growing global expansion of Indian energy companies. It also emphasized the importance of strategic international partnerships. India is actively investing in energy assets abroad to enhance its energy security, and this success is part of that ongoing effort.

The ministry congratulated the consortium on this significant achievement and expressed hope for the proper utilization of these resources in the future. Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri also shared this information on his official social media account.

This new discovery in Libya is considered a major step for India’s energy sector, which could play a crucial role in meeting the country’s future energy needs.
