Indian Ambassador Vinay Kwatra Advocates for AI for All Vision

Washington, May 9: Indian Ambassador to the United States, Vinay Kwatra, emphasized the importance of enhancing technological collaboration between India and the U.S. while advocating for the democratization of artificial intelligence (AI) at the U.S.-India AI and Emerging Technology Forum.

Speaking at an event, Kwatra highlighted that a recent AI summit in India successfully brought together global leaders, scientists, and industry experts to create a shared vision. He stated, “Ultimately, the goal was to democratize AI.”

He explained this concept as increasing access to the outcomes of AI. “If the end product of this technology is intelligence, then that intelligence should be disseminated democratically for the benefit of all,” he added.

Kwatra noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision is clear: AI should be accessible to everyone. He mentioned that this idea was also included in the New Delhi Declaration.

He observed a convergence of global innovation systems at the summit, stating, “You witnessed various innovation ecosystems coming together.”

Kwatra also pointed out the participation of over 20 heads of state and government leaders from the global research community.

He indicated the growing collaboration between India and the U.S., suggesting that they could sign a joint cooperation framework in this area. This partnership spans technology, innovation, and manufacturing, shaping supply chains and economic activities.

He remarked, “Artificial intelligence is evolving so rapidly and on such a large scale that fully understanding it remains quite challenging.”

Kwatra suggested that progress should be viewed as a series of benefits. “I wouldn’t want to see it as a singular success but rather as an ongoing process,” he stated.

He cited semiconductor investments as an example of connecting capital, technology, and talent. Kwatra emphasized that AI is not limited to software. “It’s also a story about hardware, whether it’s electricity, data centers, or essential minerals,” he noted.

Looking ahead, Kwatra stressed the importance of collaboration in fields like quantum computing, quantum communication, and nuclear fusion. He stated that research collaboration among universities remains a key driver of innovation.

Kwatra also addressed governance and security, asserting, “Security against any malicious intent is always a priority.”

He mentioned that India is focusing on safe, risk-free, and reliable AI to ensure infrastructure security and maintain social harmony.

In recent years, India and the U.S. have significantly increased cooperation in critical technologies, including semiconductors, AI, and supply chains. Both countries are working to promote innovation and deployment in industries while developing common standards for reliable and secure systems.
