Beijing, June 3: The China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing released the logistics industry prosperity index for May on Wednesday. The index indicates a slight increase in demand for logistics services, maintaining stability, and returning to the expansion range.
In May, China’s logistics industry prosperity index stood at 50.3%, marking a 0.6% increase from April and signaling a return to expansion. Most sub-indices showed growth compared to April. Notably, the total business volume index, new orders index, real estate investment completion index, and employment index all fell within the expansion category.
Specifically, the new orders index recorded a rise of 50.2% for May, reflecting an increase for the third consecutive month. Since the beginning of May, the upstream and downstream connections in industrial and supply chains have become more coordinated, leading to a significant surge in industrial logistics demand, while consumer sector logistics demand remained stable.
Additionally, the main business cost index for logistics companies in May was 52.6%, indicating a 0.3% rise from April. This suggests that companies are experiencing increased pressure from rising costs, such as fuel and labor.
