New Delhi, June 5: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper. Following their meeting, PM Modi stated that the India-UK Vision 2035 will continue to guide their partnership and strengthen their joint efforts for global welfare.
PM Modi expressed his pleasure at meeting Cooper on the social media platform X. He praised the deepening of the India-UK partnership in recent days, which has opened unprecedented growth opportunities for both nations. He emphasized that the India-UK Vision 2035 will remain a guiding framework for their collaboration.
Earlier, India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar also met with Foreign Secretary Cooper. During their discussion, Jaishankar highlighted significant changes in India-UK relations, including UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s visit to India last October and PM Modi’s visit to the UK in July.
The meeting was attended by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, India’s High Commissioner to the UK P. Kumaran, and other officials.
Jaishankar noted, “Your presence today confirms our broad strategic partnership and provides an opportunity to review its progress. Our relationship has evolved from a historical and cultural connection to shared economic goals and a high-tech highway.”
He added, “Last year saw remarkable developments in our bilateral relations, marked by the reciprocal visits of Prime Ministers Modi and Starmer within a few months. We signed the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) and established a roadmap for our defense industry.”
A significant achievement in the strategic partnership between India and the UK has been made in the critical minerals sector. Following the announcement by both Prime Ministers to establish a Critical Minerals Supply Chain Observatory in 2025, a major step was taken recently. On Thursday, India’s Minister of Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy and UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper jointly inaugurated the India-UK Critical Minerals Global Supply Chain Observatory (GSCOS) satellite center.
