Udaipur, July 24, 2026 (Daily Kiran): Hindustan Zinc Limited, the world’s largest integrated zinc producer and one of the top 10 global silver producers, delivered its strongest-ever first-quarter performance for FY2026-27, reporting a record net profit of ₹5,469 crore, up 145% year-on-year, driven by record production, higher metal prices and the company’s lowest-ever quarterly zinc production cost.
The company reported its highest-ever quarterly revenue from operations of ₹13,747 crore, registering a 77% YoY increase, while EBITDA reached an all-time high of ₹8,074 crore, up 109% YoY. EBITDA margin improved to 59%, reinforcing Hindustan Zinc’s position among the world’s lowest-cost zinc producers.
During the quarter, the company achieved its highest-ever first-quarter mined metal production of 268 KT for the fifth consecutive year. Refined metal production increased to 260 KT, while zinc production rose to 213 KT. Quarterly zinc cost of production fell to US$851 per tonne, a 16% improvement over the corresponding period last year.
Strong operational performance, higher metal prices, improved by-product realisation, lead concentrate sales and a stronger US dollar supported the company’s record profitability and cash generation. Hindustan Zinc also generated a strong free cash flow before growth capex of ₹5,253 crore.
The Board of Directors declared the first interim dividend of ₹11 per equity share, equivalent to 550% of the face value, resulting in a payout of ₹4,648 crore to shareholders.
During the quarter, Hindustan Zinc contributed nearly ₹6,450 crore to the national exchequer, including around ₹1,700 crore to the Rajasthan government through taxes and mining royalties.
Leadership Changes
The company’s Board has appointed Amarendu Prakash as Chief Executive Officer and Whole-time Director with effect from August 1, 2026. He previously served as Chairman and Managing Director of Steel Authority of India Limited from 2023 to 2026.
Amit Gupta assumed charge as Chief Financial Officer on June 1, 2026. A Chartered Accountant, he brings more than two decades of experience in finance, capital allocation, business transformation and corporate governance within the Vedanta Group.
ESG Milestones
During the quarter, Hindustan Zinc continued to strengthen its sustainability initiatives. Following Chanderiya, the Rampura Agucha Mine became India’s first mine to receive the Zinc Mark certification. The company was also included for the first time in the Dow Jones Best-in-Class Index (Emerging Markets).
Other ESG achievements included deployment of India’s first 250-metric-tonne electric crane at Zinc Smelter Debari, launch of Rajasthan’s first fleet of 41 electric buses for employee transportation, inclusion in TIME’s World’s Most Sustainable Companies 2026 list, signing an MoU with Advantek Associates LLP and Aero Eagle Automobiles Private Limited to explore hydrogen fuel and clean energy solutions, and an agreement with The Energy and Resources Institute for a 250-hectare ecological restoration project at the Chanderiya Lead Zinc Smelter.
Commenting on the performance, Hindustan Zinc CEO Arun Misra said the company had started the financial year with its highest-ever first-quarter mined metal production for the fifth consecutive year, reflecting the strength of its assets and continued operational excellence. He said ongoing debottlenecking initiatives were enhancing refined metal production while reinforcing Hindustan Zinc’s position as one of the world’s lowest-cost zinc producers. He added that the company remains focused on delivering responsible growth and long-term value as demand for zinc continues to be driven by infrastructure development and the global energy transition.
Chief Financial Officer Amit Gupta said the record quarterly net profit and EBITDA reflected Hindustan Zinc’s consistent focus on operational excellence, cost competitiveness and disciplined financial management. He added that the company’s strong balance sheet and prudent capital allocation position it well for sustained long-term growth.
The company maintained gross investments and cash of ₹12,892 crore as of June 30, 2026, while total borrowings stood at ₹7,320 crore. Hindustan Zinc also retained its AAA credit rating from CRISIL.
Among major projects, the 510 KTPA fertiliser plant and the hot acid leaching project at Dariba are expected to be completed by the second quarter of FY2027. The 250 KTPA integrated refined zinc expansion at Debari is targeted for completion by the second quarter of FY2029, while India’s first 10 MTPA tailings reprocessing plant at Rampura Agucha is expected to be commissioned by the fourth quarter of FY2028.
