
Birmingham, June 14: India has achieved its fifth largest victory by runs in the Women’s T20 World Cup by defeating Pakistan by 64 runs. Batting first at Edgbaston, the Indian women’s team scored 170 runs after losing 6 wickets. In response, Pakistan was bowled out for just 106 runs in 17 overs.
India’s largest victory in the Women’s T20 World Cup came in 2024 against Sri Lanka in Dubai, where they won by 82 runs. The team also secured a 79-run victory against Bangladesh in Sylhet and triumphed over Bangladesh by 72 runs in 2016. In 2010, the ‘Women in Blue’ defeated Sri Lanka by 71 runs.
This match marked India’s seventh victory against Pakistan in the Women’s T20 World Cup, out of a total of nine encounters. Australia leads the list with 8 wins out of 9 matches against South Africa, while New Zealand has won all seven matches against Sri Lanka.
In the match played on Sunday, India lost two wickets for just 18 runs. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur then partnered with Smriti Mandhana to rescue the team, scoring 91 runs in 63 balls. Mandhana made 68 runs off 44 balls, while Kaur contributed 36 runs from 35 balls.
Deepti Sharma (not out 12) and Richa Ghosh (34) added 45 runs for the sixth wicket in just 21 balls, helping the team reach a strong total. For Pakistan, Sadia Iqbal and Fatima Sana took 2 wickets each, while Tasmiya Rubab and Rameen Shameem claimed 1 wicket each.
In reply, Pakistan’s opening pair of Muniba Ali and Gul Firoza provided a solid start, but after their dismissal, the team lost wickets at regular intervals, collapsing to 106 runs. Muniba Ali was the top scorer for Pakistan with 41 runs off 35 balls. For India, Deepti Sharma excelled with the ball, taking 5 wickets for just 10 runs in 4 overs, while Shree Chani claimed 3 wickets. Shefali Verma also took 1 wicket.
