Guyana Amazon Warriors Triumph Over St. Lucia Kings in CPL 2026 Match

St. Lucia, August 20: In an exciting match of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2026 held at the Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, the Guyana Amazon Warriors defeated the St. Lucia Kings by seven wickets.

After losing the toss, the St. Lucia Kings batted first, scoring 151 runs for the loss of seven wickets. Charith Asalanka contributed significantly with 35 runs off 28 balls, including two sixes and one four. Other notable scores included Andre Gaus with 20 runs, Kieron Pollard with 19, and Deron Ned and captain Roston Chase, both scoring 14 runs each.

For the Guyana Amazon Warriors, Dwayne Pretorius took three wickets, while Shamar Joseph claimed two and Romario Shepherd secured one wicket.

Chasing a target of 152 runs, the Guyana Amazon Warriors got off to a strong start with Glenn Phillips and Mavendra Dindayal. The duo added 79 runs for the first wicket in just 10.3 overs. Phillips scored 36 runs off 26 balls, hitting two sixes and two fours before being dismissed. Dindayal played a crucial innings, making 50 runs off 51 balls, featuring two sixes and five fours, before getting out when the team’s score reached 107 in the 14th over.

Captain Shai Hope managed 17 runs before falling. Shimron Hetmyer scored 25 runs off 11 balls, hitting one six and four fours, while Sampson remained unbeaten with 13 runs off four balls. Hetmyer sealed the victory with a six, leading the team to a total of 157 runs for the loss of three wickets in 18.1 overs.

From the St. Lucia side, Maheesh Theekshana took two wickets, and Joshua Bishop claimed one. This victory marked the second win for the Guyana Amazon Warriors in their second match of the season, while the St. Lucia Kings faced their third defeat in five matches.
