New Delhi, August 10: India has sent a shipment of eight metric tons of life-saving and essential medicines to bolster Bolivia’s public health system, as announced by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Sunday.
The MEA shared the news on the social media platform X, stating, “India has stepped forward to assist a partner country in the Global South. We have dispatched eight metric tons of life-saving and essential medicines to support Bolivia’s public health capacity. India is always ready to promote collaboration through solidarity and shared progress.”
Bolivia’s Vice President, Edmund Lara Montano, visited India in February this year. During the AI Impact Summit held in New Delhi, he met with India’s Vice President, C.P. Radhakrishnan. The two leaders discussed ways to enhance cooperation in solar energy, critical minerals, digitization, higher education, and the healthcare sector.
Following the meeting, the Vice President’s office posted on X, “Bolivia’s Vice President Edmund Lara Montano met with India’s Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan today at the Vice President’s residence in New Delhi. This meeting took place during the India AI Impact Summit 2026.”
The post further noted, “Both leaders expressed satisfaction over the continuously strengthening bilateral relations between India and Bolivia. They discussed opportunities to enhance cooperation in solar energy, critical minerals, digitization, higher education, and health. Additionally, they exchanged ideas on further strengthening collaboration in multilateral and other international forums.”
During the meeting, both parties specifically focused on measures to increase partnerships in solar energy, critical minerals, digitization, higher education, and the healthcare sector.
According to the MEA, India had also donated 300,000 doses of MR (Measles and Rubella) vaccine to Bolivia last July, along with other necessary medical supplies for vaccination.
India’s Ambassador to Bolivia, Rohit Vadhwana, formally handed over the shipment at a ceremony held at El Alto Airport in Bolivia’s administrative capital, La Paz.
Present at the event were Bolivia’s Foreign Minister Celinda Sosa Lunda, Health and Sports Minister Maria Rene Castro Quisicanqui, and Deputy Minister Max Enriquez Nava.
