Tehran, August 9: Iran’s Foreign Ministry announced on Sunday that there are currently no negotiations with the United States. Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi made this statement during a press briefing at the Center for Political and International Studies.
According to Iran’s semi-official news agency Tasnim, Araghchi stated, “At this time, we are not engaged in any discussions with the U.S. However, some intermediaries are still trying to find ways to resume talks. From our perspective, negotiations cannot restart until the U.S. halts its violations of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and compensates for previous breaches.”
He emphasized, “As long as the U.S. does not stop its violations of the MoU and correct its mistakes, we believe there is no possibility for negotiations to resume.”
The Foreign Minister also mentioned that discussions with Oman regarding a new maritime route in the Strait of Hormuz are in the final stages. He noted that experts are working on new maritime routes that will replace the existing ones.
Araghchi clarified, “This does not mean that the Strait of Hormuz will be opened. An agreement may be reached in this regard, but the decision to open the Strait will depend on several conditions.”
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated on Saturday that Tehran will continue to pursue the path of peace under the MoU, provided that Washington helps create a climate of trust.
During a press conference, Pezeshkian said that Iran is striving to move forward on the ‘path of peace’ based on the provisions of the MoU. He remarked, “This is the best time to reach an agreement, as there is unity, strength, and mutual cooperation within the country.”
He added, “We are committed to advancing based on the MoU, but it is essential for the U.S. to eliminate the atmosphere of distrust it has created and replace it with a climate of confidence.”
