India Doubles Aircraft Count in 10 Years, Focuses on Building Manufacturing Ecosystem

Hyderabad: India has doubled the number of airports and aircraft in the past decade, and now aims to develop a robust manufacturing ecosystem for civil aviation, said Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu on Wednesday.

Speaking to the media during the inauguration of the civil aviation conference ‘Wings India 2026’ at Begumpet Airport, Hyderabad, Naidu emphasized that the ecosystem will not only meet domestic demand over the next 10 to 20 years but will also position India as a global export hub in the sector.

He added that this edition of ‘Wings India 2026’ will showcase India’s growing capabilities, particularly in aircraft manufacturing.

The minister highlighted that the doubling of airports, passengers, and aircraft in the last decade is the result of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision and the central government’s ‘UDAN’ scheme aimed at enhancing regional connectivity.

Naidu also informed that on Tuesday, a partnership agreement was signed between Brazil’s Embraer and Adani Aerospace to establish a manufacturing ecosystem in India. This collaboration reflects a new India emerging as a reliable partner in the aviation sector.

The timeline for this partnership will be finalised next month during the visit of the Brazilian President to India, when he will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Looking ahead, the minister expressed optimism about significant progress in aviation manufacturing over the next two years.

During the event, Ram Mohan Naidu inspected the Boeing 787-9 aircraft, specially made for Air India, marking its first delivery. He noted that aircraft availability remains a key challenge in the industry. “Boeing and Airbus have received numerous orders, and deliveries have started this year. We are confident that the delivery of these specially designed planes will boost confidence in the aviation sector,” he said.

The minister further stated that Airbus and Boeing are already sourcing parts worth up to two billion dollars from India, and several manufacturing centres are being developed across the country.
