New Delhi, August 11: India has condemned the violence against protesters and the local population in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (POK). During a press briefing on Tuesday, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal urged the international community to hold Pakistan accountable for these human rights violations.
In response to questions about the violence in POK, Jaiswal stated, “We are closely monitoring the activities in our neighborhood. We see how human rights are being violated in Pakistan. So far, 90 people have lost their lives. The demands of the people are being met with bullets and internet shutdowns. Everyone can see how Pakistan is oppressing its citizens.”
He called on the world to pay attention to this situation, adding, “We have witnessed human rights violations. We have seen how brutally people have been killed and mistreated. This once again highlights that Pakistan has much to do in the realm of human rights. Recent violence has resulted in fatalities. It is now the responsibility of the international community to address this and hold Pakistan accountable.”
Regarding the recently signed defense pact between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey, the MEA spokesperson commented, “We are keeping a close watch on developments in West Asia. We are assessing the implications for India’s security and the peace and stability of the region. India is fully committed to safeguarding its national interests and will take necessary steps accordingly.”
Recently, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey signed the Makkah Defense Pact, which stipulates that any military attack on one country will be considered an attack on all three.
