New Delhi, August 11: India has reaffirmed that Arunachal Pradesh is an integral and inseparable part of its territory. During a press briefing on Tuesday, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal emphasized this point.
Recently, India officially included 27 locations in Arunachal Pradesh on its map by changing their names. This move prompted a typical reaction from China, which issued a statement condemning the action. When questioned by the media regarding this issue, Jaiswal clarified, without naming any country, that “Arunachal Pradesh is an integral and inseparable part of India, and this is a self-evident fact that no action can alter this indisputable reality.”
Since 2017, China has included Arunachal Pradesh in its maps and has frequently altered the names of various locations. However, when India changed names within its own territory, China reacted strongly. The Indian government officially modified the names of 27 sites in Arunachal Pradesh, including lakes, settlements, and monuments, on the Survey of India map. Meanwhile, China has been employing name-changing tactics since 2017.
China claims that Arunachal Pradesh is part of southern Tibet, a claim that India has consistently rejected as baseless.
In response to India’s recent actions, China’s state media outlet, Global Times, reported that China has long included this region in its maps. Amid signs of improving India-China relations, India has begun to take unilateral actions, which could potentially worsen conditions along the border. The report suggested that this would not benefit India.
Earlier in April, the Ministry of External Affairs reiterated that Arunachal Pradesh has always been an integral part of India and will continue to be. It stated that China’s attempts to change names are illegal and should not be tolerated.
