India and the U.S. Strengthen Defense Ties in Hawaii Talks

Washington, June 6: The 29th Army-to-Army Staff Talks between India and the United States took place in Hawaii, focusing on enhancing defense cooperation between the two nations. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening their strategic partnership.

According to the Indian Army, the meeting was co-chaired by Lieutenant General Rajeev Ghai, Deputy Chief of Army Staff (Strategy), and Lieutenant General Joel Vowell, Deputy Commanding General of the U.S. Army Pacific.

The Indian Army shared details on social media platform X, stating, “The main focus of the discussions was to strengthen bilateral defense cooperation, enhance coordination between the armies, expand professional exchanges, and deepen military collaboration for shared security interests.” Both parties appreciated the growing cooperation between their armies and expressed commitment to further strengthening the India-U.S. strategic partnership.

Last week, Defense Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh met with Pat Harrigan, head of a bipartisan delegation from the U.S. Congress and a member of the House Armed Services Committee, in Singapore. They discussed regional security, expanding defense cooperation, and shared strategic interests in the Indo-Pacific region.

The Ministry of Defense highlighted on X that this dialogue underscored the strength of the India-U.S. defense partnership. Both sides deliberated on regional security, enhancing defense cooperation, and advancing shared strategic goals in the Indo-Pacific.

Earlier, on May 24, U.S. Secretary of State and National Security Advisor Marco Rubio met with India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval in New Delhi. They discussed defense, security, and strategic technology cooperation, particularly focusing on the TRU.S.T. initiative.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, both national security advisors reiterated the high priority given to the comprehensive global strategic partnership between India and the U.S. They also shared views on regional and global issues.
