India and Germany Strengthen Defense Cooperation with New Technologies

Berlin, April 15: On April 14, 2026, Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and Dr. Geza Andreas von Geyer, State Secretary of the German Foreign Ministry, co-chaired the India-Germany Foreign Office Consultation (FOC) in Berlin. During this meeting, Misri also met with German Foreign Minister Johannes Wadaful.

This meeting took place during a significant year for India-Germany bilateral relations, marking 75 years of diplomatic ties. Last year, both nations celebrated 25 years of their strategic partnership.

The co-chairs launched a logo commemorating the 75th anniversary of India-Germany diplomatic relations. This dialogue provided both sides an opportunity to assess the current state of their relationship and explore ways to deepen the India-Germany strategic partnership.

During the discussions, both parties reviewed the entire spectrum of India-Germany relations, including trade and investment, defense and security, technology, green and sustainable development, mobility, and people-to-people exchanges.

They agreed to enhance and diversify cooperation in critical and emerging areas such as essential technologies, defense, industrial collaboration, digital governance, renewable energy, green hydrogen, innovation, and development cooperation in third countries. The two sides also exchanged views on key regional and global developments, including the situation in West Asia and the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

The Foreign Secretary engaged with senior foreign policy experts, lawmakers, and senior officials from Germany’s federal and state governments at the Körber Foundation.

The discussions took place in a positive and friendly atmosphere. This visit by the Foreign Secretary followed German Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s trip to India in January 2026, which significantly boosted relations between the two countries. The visit also aimed to advance ongoing cooperation in critical areas and seek positive outcomes for the upcoming India-Germany Inter-Governmental Consultation later this year. Misri extended an invitation to State Secretary von Geyer to visit India at a mutually agreed time.
