Anup Soni Remembers Gangaajal on Social Media

Mumbai, May 29: Indian cinema has produced films that entertain while shedding light on harsh societal truths. One such film is ‘Gangaajal,’ released in 2003. On Friday, actor Anup Soni shared a special post about the film.

In his post, Soni expressed his gratitude for being part of this historic and remarkable film. He shared a scene featuring the jail lock-up, noting that it was shot in a single take.

He wrote, “Today, I am reminded of one of the most powerful scenes from ‘Gangaajal.’ This lock-up scene was filmed in one take using a Steadicam. It was incredibly realistic, tense, and full of energy. Such moments remind us why certain films remain in people’s hearts for years. I consider myself fortunate to be a part of this cult film.”

Soni also highlighted the film’s direction by Prakash Jha and mentioned the memorable experience of working alongside talented actors like Ajay Devgn, Gracy Singh, Yashpal Sharma, Mukesh Tiwari, Chetan Pandit, Mohan Joshi, Ayub Khan, Akhilendra Mishra, and Mohan Agashe.

In ‘Gangaajal’ (2003), Anup Soni portrayed the role of police inspector Neelkanth Tiwari, a dedicated and honest officer who assisted Superintendent Amit Kumar, played by Ajay Devgn.

The crime-action film was inspired by the notorious ‘Bhagalpur blinding case’ of the 1980s, where police blinded criminals with acid. Ajay Devgn received a National Award for his outstanding performance in the film. Upon its release in Bihar, ‘Gangaajal’ faced significant controversy, leading to a week-long suspension of screenings due to political protests.
