New Delhi, July 15: Congress MP Imran Masood has voiced his opinions on several key issues related to Uttar Pradesh politics. He addressed the ongoing investigation into the Ram Temple donation case, the alliance between the Samajwadi Party (SP) and Congress, and the Bhojshala matter. Additionally, he responded to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s statements regarding Ram Leela and the Kanwar Yatra.
Regarding the Ram Temple donation theft case, Masood questioned the investigation process, stating, “The FIR was filed by the trust, while the allegations of theft are directed at individuals associated with the trust. If the accusations are serious, why hasn’t the SIT filed an FIR yet?”
He emphasized the need for a fair investigation to uncover the truth. Masood asserted that transparency in the investigation process is crucial, and legal actions should be taken according to the law in matters involving any institution.
In response to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s remarks about those who previously opposed Ram Leela and the Kanwar Yatra now speaking of faith, Masood said, “I am not aware of any such restrictions. Ram Leela has always been for all sections of society, and performers or audiences have never been judged based on religion.”
He noted that Ram Leela is a part of Indian culture and has always included participants from all communities. According to him, religious events should not be politicized.
On the Bhojshala issue, following the Supreme Court‘s notice and the upholding of a High Court order, Masood refrained from commenting on the Supreme Court’s decision. However, he remarked that an 800-year-old tradition has been terminated. He emphasized that all citizens in India have equal rights and that the sentiments of every community should be respected.
Regarding the ongoing statements about the alliance between the Samajwadi Party and Congress, Masood clarified that he never claimed he would decide on the alliance. He stated that the final decision should be made by the leadership of both parties.
He added, “If there is talk of an alliance, it should be visible on the ground. An alliance that is limited to TV debates and statements is meaningless. I am not against the alliance; rather, I advocate for strengthening Congress.”
Citing the performance of the Samajwadi Party, Masood noted that in 2014, the SP won five seats while contesting alone. In 2019, despite the SP-BSP alliance, the seat count remained at five. However, in 2024, the Congress and SP together achieved better results, securing 37 seats.
He urged all parties to show generosity regarding seat-sharing and alliances. He questioned why, if Congress was allocated only 17 seats, those aspiring for the chief minister’s position should not demonstrate the same cooperation and understanding.
