Lucknow, July 15: Rajendra Pal Gautam, in charge of the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC), has raised concerns regarding the ongoing SIT investigation into the Ram Temple donation case and the Gyanvapi dispute. He expressed skepticism about the impartiality of the SIT, stating that he does not hold much hope for a fair outcome.
In an interview with a news agency regarding the potential final report on the theft of donations related to the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, Gautam remarked, “The members of the SIT were appointed by the same government that established the temple trust and facilitated the temple’s construction process. Therefore, it is natural to question the investigation’s impartiality.”
The Congress leader alleged, “This case is intertwined with political organizations, and it is difficult to expect a fair investigation from officials linked to those who have exploited religion and Lord Ram’s name for political gain. When allegations of donation theft arise in such matters, the public expects a transparent inquiry.”
Commenting on the lack of resolution through mediation in the Gyanvapi dispute, Gautam emphasized, “The nation and the Constitution must be prioritized above all.”
He referenced Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s speech in the Constituent Assembly, where Ambedkar warned against placing religion above the nation and cautioned against the worship of individuals.
Gautam noted that the concerns Ambedkar highlighted are still relevant today. He stressed the importance of maintaining equality and mutual respect among all religions and communities in line with the spirit of the Constitution.
He concluded, “For a long time, Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, and Christians in India have coexisted in brotherhood. However, since religion has increasingly been used for political purposes, societal disputes and divisions have grown. It is inappropriate for any nation when people begin to view each other through the lens of hatred instead of love and respect.”
