Identification of Nine Foreign Victims in Malviya Nagar Fire Incident

New Delhi, June 4: The Delhi Police have identified nine of the twelve foreign nationals who lost their lives in the tragic Malviya Nagar fire incident.

The devastating blaze at the ‘Flourish Stage’ hotel resulted in the deaths of 21 individuals, including nine Indian citizens and twelve foreign nationals from countries such as Bangladesh, Liberia, Nigeria, and Mozambique.

Authorities have sent the list of foreign victims to the Ministry of External Affairs to facilitate the repatriation of their bodies to their respective countries.

The identification of these foreign nationals was made possible through passports and other documents found at the scene.

The police have completed DNA profiling for all foreign victims, a process that was carried out after obtaining necessary permissions from the embassies of the respective countries.

Post-mortem examinations of the foreign nationals’ bodies were conducted following approval from their embassies.

According to the Delhi Fire Service, the fire affected the basement, ground floor, and five upper floors of the building. An investigation into the cause of the fire is currently underway.

The fire broke out in the morning and quickly spread through multiple floors of the high-rise building.

Rescue teams managed to evacuate 47 people from the structure, and 26 injured individuals are receiving treatment at various hospitals across the city.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Police have arrested the hotel owner, Lovkesh Bajaj. He was taken into custody while authorities were searching for him and his wife, both of whom had already been subject to a Look Out Circular (LOC).

This arrest comes as investigative agencies examine potential violations of safety regulations, administrative negligence, and other possible shortcomings. Officials are also looking into whether the hotel had adequate fire safety measures in place and if it was operating in compliance with all legal requirements.

The Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD) has assured strict action against those found responsible in this case. The corporation stated that anyone found guilty in the investigation will face severe consequences.

According to officials, action against those found culpable is expected to occur within a week of the investigation report submission.

The police have filed a case under charges of involuntary manslaughter and other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Investigators are probing whether serious negligence and violations of safety regulations contributed to the high number of fatalities in this incident.
