Human Rights Organization Condemns Pakistani Military Operations in Balochistan as Inhumane

Quetta, May 1: A prominent human rights organization has strongly condemned the Pakistani military operation in the Kharan district of Balochistan, labeling it as inhumane. Reports indicate that four civilians were injured, and one person was forcibly disappeared during the operation.

According to the Human Rights Council of Balochistan (HRCB), the Pakistani army’s mortar shelling occurred on April 25 in the residential area of Lijjay, resulting in serious injuries to two women, a man, and a one-year-old child.

The victims have been identified as Bibi Zakira, Bibi Shafika, Hafiz Tahir, and Nadia, who were reportedly denied emergency transport despite needing urgent medical care.

Additionally, local physician Dr. Shahjahan was forcibly disappeared during the operation. The rights organization stated that he was taken to an unknown location while his home was allegedly set on fire.

HRCB emphasized, “The abduction of civilians during military operations and punishing families collectively is unacceptable and illegal. Reports of looting, confiscation of goods, and damage to private property by the Pakistani army and affiliated armed groups raise concerns about the chaos imposed on locals under the guise of security operations.”

The rights body further asserted that Pakistani officials are violating “constitutional responsibilities, domestic laws, and international human rights commitments” by forcibly disappearing civilians, collectively punishing them, and treating them inhumanely in Balochistan.

It added, “The militarization in Balochistan has increased, creating an environment where the lives, dignity, and safety of ordinary people are at risk.”

HRCB has called on international human rights organizations to urgently address the deteriorating situation in Balochistan.
