Mumbai, July 29: Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has reviewed the operations and construction of the Thane General Hospital. He instructed officials to expedite the project completion.
Shinde emphasized that providing world-class and modern healthcare facilities to the residents of Thane and the surrounding Palghar district is a government priority.
During a review meeting held at the ministry, the Deputy Chief Minister received updates on the progress of the 900-bed state-of-the-art district general hospital, women’s and children’s hospital, and super-specialty hospital project.
He urged officials to accelerate the pace of work at every stage of the project, stating that any administrative delays would not be tolerated.
The meeting highlighted an issue where, despite the hospital building being completed, it could not be operational due to the lack of an electricity connection. Shinde directed the relevant authorities to fast-track the necessary electricity connection work to ensure healthcare services commence promptly.
The Deputy Chief Minister also instructed for regular and high-quality cleaning of the hospital premises, expedited procurement of advanced medical equipment, and swift completion of the hiring process for 1,078 new positions recently approved by the government.
This significant healthcare project will operate three major hospitals within the same complex. It includes a 500-bed main district hospital, a 200-bed women’s and children’s hospital, and a 200-bed referral service hospital. Additionally, super-specialty departments such as cardiology, neurology, nephrology, and oncology will be available.
Special provisions for critical patients and emergency services are also planned. A helipad will be constructed on the hospital roof for easy access for air ambulances when necessary. Furthermore, the hospital will feature 16 modern surgical theaters.
The review meeting was attended by Health Minister Prakash Abitkar, Minister Dadaji Bhuse, Gulabrao Patil, Uday Samant, and several senior officials and public representatives.
