New Delhi, July 29: Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired the second high-level meeting with secretaries of the Indian government at his residence on July 28. The meeting focused on reviewing the future work agenda of ministries related to finance, economy, commerce, industry, and technology. The primary aim was to accelerate progress towards the goals of a ‘Developed India.’
The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of teamwork among ministries and departments, urging officials to work with a shared sense of purpose. He highlighted the need to eliminate ‘horizontal’ and ‘vertical’ silos within the government to ensure better coordination and integrated outcomes.
Stressing the significance of citizen-centric governance, Modi asserted that the people of India should be at the center of governance. He reminded attendees that every decision and policy must consider the interests and aspirations of ordinary citizens.
He pointed out that while India is making substantial investments in infrastructure, equal priority should be given to the development of indigenous technologies. The Prime Minister underscored the importance of technological self-reliance and developing domestic capabilities in critical sectors.
Modi noted that energy security is directly linked to national security, economic stability, and the welfare of citizens. He stated that India must achieve self-reliance in the energy sector through innovation, diversification, and rapid capacity building.
Reiterating that reform is not just a buzzword but a continuous necessity for effective governance, the Prime Minister called for improvements in processes, enhancing work culture, and strengthening institutional efficiency.
He also stressed the need for a strong focus on cybersecurity, especially with the increasing use of technology for securing digital systems and infrastructure. Modi emphasized the importance of remaining vigilant against emerging cyber threats and encouraged greater participation of young innovators and entrepreneurs in the cybersecurity ecosystem, advocating for it to become a nationwide movement.
The Prime Minister highlighted the importance of active communication in strategic areas where the country is making significant strides, to counter misinformation and unfounded fears associated with these efforts.
He suggested that new academic courses should be designed in collaboration with industry to skill the workforce according to the needs of emerging and future industries. Modi emphasized that the government must remain youthful, dynamic, and forward-looking, continuously adapting to new challenges and opportunities with speed and innovation.
During the meeting, secretaries discussed their respective areas of progress, priorities, and implementation issues in detail. The gathering included the Cabinet Secretary, secretaries of key ministries and departments, and senior officials from the Prime Minister’s Office.
