Home Ministry Issues Directive to States to Prevent CJP Protesters from Entering Delhi

New Delhi, October 10 (Daily Kiran) : The Central Home Ministry has reached out to all states and Union Territories, urging them to coordinate with Delhi Police. This comes in anticipation of a protest by the “Cockroach People’s Party” (CJP) scheduled for Saturday at Jantar Mantar. Authorities are taking precautionary measures to prevent protesters from converging on the national capital.

The demonstration is organized in response to alleged irregularities in the “Special Intensive Revision” (SIR) of the electoral rolls, with protesters demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

In a letter sent to the Directors General of Police (DGPs) across the country, the ministry emphasized the necessity of immediate action to thwart CJP supporters’ attempts to enter Delhi without permission. Such actions could threaten public order and safety.

The ministry also called for ongoing and real-time intelligence sharing among state and Union Territory agencies, border and transit officials, and Delhi Police to prevent any unauthorized gatherings and maintain law and order.

The central home secretary highlighted the potential consequences of the planned assembly. He labeled the proposed gathering at Jantar Mantar as a serious issue concerning law and public order.

The letter clarified that the appeal for the protest by the CJP has been explicitly rejected, and authorities have imposed a ban on the planned assembly.

The home secretary referenced a Supreme Court ruling from 2018, stressing the need for strict adherence to regulations governing gatherings in designated areas. The ministry reiterated that maintaining public order and ensuring compliance with the law are critical responsibilities of the authorities.

The letter stated, “The ministry considers maintaining law and public order a necessary constitutional obligation. Strict and uncompromising adherence is essential for upholding the rule of law.”

The ministry also accused the CJP and its allied political parties and organizations of having a history of non-compliance with legal directives during previous events.

Past incidents involving supporters traveling from various states to Delhi have disrupted public order and damaged both public and private property, raising concerns about similar occurrences during the upcoming protest.

The letter warned that despite being formally informed of the ban, the CJP and its affiliates might disregard legal orders and attempt to enter the national capital without permission.

As a result, the ministry has instructed states and Union Territories to take collective action to prevent any disruption to public peace.

The directive stated, “All states and Union Territories are advised to coordinate with Delhi Police and take immediate precautionary measures within the legal framework to ensure public peace and the security of essential infrastructure.”
