Maharashtras Sujat Ambedkar Advocates for Preservation of Marathi Schools

Satara, October 10 (Daily Kiran) : Sujat Ambedkar, the youth leader of the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi, has criticized the Maharashtra government for the increasing commercialization of education and the closure of Marathi schools. Speaking at a press conference in Satara, he emphasized that no school in Maharashtra should be shut down and advocated for the educational model implemented in Akola district to be adopted statewide.

During the event, Ambedkar called for strengthening the education system, addressing teachers’ issues, and providing better facilities for students. The Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi also announced its candidates for the upcoming elections, nominating Dr. Iqbal Chandulal Sheikh from the teachers’ constituency and Prof. Somnath Salunkhe from the graduates’ constituency.

Ambedkar stated that the party has fielded candidates with a profound understanding of the challenges and needs within the education sector. He stressed the importance of having experienced and qualified representatives to effectively raise issues related to education.

Highlighting Prof. Salunkhe’s academic and technical background, he noted that Salunkhe has supported students through teaching, research, and technological innovations in the fields of technology and engineering. The party aims to effectively address issues concerning teachers and graduates in the legislative council.

Using Akola district as a model, Ambedkar pointed out that 80 new schools have been established there in recent years. He argued that instead of closing schools, efforts should focus on increasing their numbers and enhancing educational facilities.

He also underscored the necessity of providing better education and amenities for students in rural areas. According to him, facilities such as gyms and study rooms have been developed to help students prepare for police recruitment, forest department exams, and other competitive tests.

Ambedkar insisted that the approach taken in Akola should be applied throughout Maharashtra to ensure equal opportunities for students in both rural and urban areas. He stressed the importance of preserving Marathi medium schools and making education accessible to the general public.

During the press conference, he raised concerns about obstacles in teacher recruitment, salary issues, pensions for retired teachers, and challenges related to the teacher service system. Ambedkar asserted that ensuring justice for teachers and addressing the systemic problems in education should be the government’s priority.

He expressed worry over the growing commercialization of education, stating that education should not merely be a means for profit. Concrete steps are needed to strengthen Marathi schools, resolve teachers’ issues, and provide quality education to students.

The Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi has stated that its candidates will prioritize the concerns of teachers and graduates in the legislative council. Political circles are closely watching how much impact the party’s candidates will have in the upcoming elections.
