More Than 30,000 Sports Talents and Athletes Encouraged
29 August 2025 (Kiran News). Hindustan Zinc Limited, the world’s largest integrated zinc producer, is not just at the forefront of metal production but also plays a leading role in the promotion of sports. The company has consistently invested in developing cricket, kabaddi, handball, and volleyball around its operational areas and in Rajasthan, positively impacting over 30,000 sporting talents. Hindustan Zinc’s tradition of supporting football at the Zawar Stadium dates back to 1976, with national tournaments being organized there for nearly half a century.

The company’s football academy in Zawar provides a crucial platform for boys and girls in rural areas to excel in the sport. The Vedanta Zinc City Half Marathon is also a major motivational event for athletes and runners. With a legacy spanning almost five decades, Zawar Stadium is recognized nationwide for football, hosting teams from across India who showcase their skills. These initiatives empower youth and contribute to building a healthier society.

Arun Misra, CEO of Hindustan Zinc, said, “We see sport as a force that shapes both individuals and communities. From launching India’s first girls’ residential football academy to hosting the country’s most beautiful marathon, our vision is to create platforms where youth gain confidence, discipline, and opportunity. These efforts are not just for nurturing athletes but also for building healthier, more inclusive communities and contributing to India’s sporting and social progress.”
At the core of this vision is the Zinc Football Academy in Zawar, Udaipur, a fully residential academy now recognized as one of India’s most respected grassroots football institutions. It holds a 3-star rating from the All India Football Federation and was named Sports Academy of the Year at the Sports India Awards 2024. The academy has become a cradle for young football talent, enabling rural stars like Mohammad Kaif and Sahil Poonia to wear the Indian jersey with pride. Over the years, it has gained a reputation for discipline, excellence, and opportunity, with its players securing positions with Hyderabad FC, Mohun Bagan Super Giants, Indian Air Force, CISF, and other leading platforms.
Building on this success, Hindustan Zinc has partnered with AIFF to recently launch the Zinc Football Girls Academy—India’s first residential football academy for girls, equipped with cutting-edge FQube technology. The inaugural batch of 20 girls under 15 years old is undergoing training, with plans to expand the intake to 60. This academy is not just shaping future athletes but is also promoting empowerment and equality through sports.
