Himachal Pradeshs Economy on a Strong and Stable Growth Path, Says CM Sukhu

Shimla, March 20: Chief Minister Sukhu stated on Friday that Himachal Pradesh’s economy is on a robust and stable growth trajectory.

While presenting the economic survey for 2021-22 in the assembly, CM Sukhu noted that the state’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) is projected to reach approximately ₹2.54 lakh crore at current prices for the year 2025-26, reflecting an increase of about 10.1% compared to the previous year.

He mentioned that in real terms, the state’s economy is expected to grow by around 8.3%, showcasing continuous economic activity in key sectors despite global uncertainties and climate-related challenges.

This performance highlights the inherent strength and resilience of Himachal Pradesh’s economy.

According to preliminary estimates, the GSDP at constant prices (2011-12) is projected to be ₹156,681 crore for 2025-26, up from ₹144,656 crore in 2024-25. This indicates an expected growth rate of 8.3% for 2025-26, compared to a revised estimate of 6.4% for 2024-25.

The preliminary estimates also suggest an 8.4% increase in the Gross State Value Added from the primary sector at constant prices for 2025-26. During this period, the Gross State Value Added from the primary sector is expected to be ₹18,824 crore, up from ₹17,362 crore in 2024-25 (first revision).

The service sector, supported by the continuous expansion of tourism, trade, transportation, and financial services, remains a key engine of growth, while industry and hydropower continue to be vital pillars of the state’s development.

Agriculture and related sectors play a crucial role in sustaining rural livelihoods and ensuring food security for a significant portion of the population.

Reflecting an improvement in people’s economic conditions, the per capita income is estimated to be ₹283,626 in 2025-26, marking a 9.8% increase from the previous year and exceeding the national average by ₹64,051.

CM Sukhu highlighted that the state’s per capita income has risen from ₹87,721 in 2011-12 to ₹283,626 in 2025-26, representing an annual compound growth rate of 8.7% compared to 2011-12.
