High-Speed Rail Corridors to Boost Telangana’s Economic Growth: Kishan Reddy

Hyderabad: Union Minister for Coal and Mines, G. Kishan Reddy, praised the announcement of three high-speed rail corridors connecting Hyderabad with other major cities in the Union Budget 2026-27. He said these corridors will significantly accelerate the economic growth of Telangana.

Responding to the budget presented by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in Parliament, Kishan Reddy highlighted that a total of seven high-speed rail corridors have been designated as ‘pathways to development’ across the country.

He expressed gratitude on behalf of the people of Telangana to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Sitharaman for including Hyderabad-Pune, Hyderabad-Bengaluru, and Hyderabad-Chennai high-speed rail corridors in the budget. This move is expected to establish Hyderabad as a central hub in India’s high-speed rail network.

According to Kishan Reddy, these corridors will make travel faster, generate employment, boost economic activities, and accelerate Telangana’s economic growth. He described the budget as a clear reflection of the government’s commitment to advancing a ‘developed India.’

Addressing media queries, he dismissed criticism from some parties regarding the absence of budget allocation for the expansion of Hyderabad Metro Rail. He clarified that a separate budget will be allocated for the metro rail, subject to cabinet approval. Once the Detailed Project Report (DPR) is submitted, the Ministry of Urban Development will release the funds.

Kishan Reddy also stated that Telangana will benefit from several schemes announced in the budget. He pointed out that an increase in fertilizer subsidies will support farmers in the state.

The central government has also announced a scheme for the Kakatiya Textile Park. With the declaration of one hostel in each district, Telangana will receive 33 girls’ hostels. Additionally, tax exemptions for data centres will benefit the state, while the reduction of interest rates on overseas education loans from 5% to 2% will favour Telugu students.

On financial assistance, he noted that the budget strengthens the spirit of ‘cooperative federalism’ by allocating 41% of the tax revenue to states, amounting to Rs 15.2 lakh crore for 2026-27.

For Telangana, the share for 2026-27 is Rs 33,180.78 crore, which is 13.5% higher than the previous year’s Rs 29,280.24 crore.
