High-Level CCS Meeting Under PM Modi Addresses Regional Security Concerns

New Delhi, March 2: A high-level meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) commenced under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday. This crucial meeting is taking place at the Prime Minister’s residence.

Present at the meeting are Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri.

The CCS is India’s foremost body for making decisions on security and strategic matters. This meeting comes at a time of escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, particularly following U.S.-Israeli airstrikes on Iran, which have heightened regional conflicts and global security concerns.

The CCS is the largest institution responsible for decisions related to India’s national security, comprising the Prime Minister and ministers of defense, home, external affairs, and finance. This meeting is seen as a response to recent events in West Asia, including attacks on Iranian sites and subsequent retaliatory actions. Reports indicate that these clashes have resulted in the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, raising fears of a larger conflict.

The meeting is expected to review the impact on India’s strategic interests, including the safety of Indian citizens in the region, particularly in the UAE and other Gulf countries, energy security, maritime routes, and diplomatic positioning.

In the ongoing Middle East crisis, India has maintained a balanced approach, advocating for de-escalation while protecting its citizens and economic ties.

Sources suggest that discussions may include emergency plans for evacuating individuals if necessary, the impact on oil prices, and coordination with international partners. This meeting marks the latest in a series of high-stakes security reviews amid rising global tensions.
