Heavy Rainfall Hits Mumbai, Mulund, Santa Cruz, and Powai Most Affected

Mumbai, July 2: Continuous rainfall has hit Mumbai and its surrounding areas for the third consecutive day. This has led to waterlogging in several low-lying regions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds for Mumbai and its suburbs.

In the last 24 hours, the heavy rainfall has disrupted daily life. According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), from 8 AM on July 1 to 6 AM on July 2, Mumbai recorded 134 mm of rain, with eastern suburbs receiving 164 mm and western suburbs 149 mm.

The highest rainfall in the eastern suburbs was recorded in the Mitha Nagar Municipal School area in Mulund, which saw 218.6 mm. Other significant readings include 212 mm in the S Ward office area, 208.4 mm near Powai’s Paholi Municipal School, 205.8 mm in the Gavhanpada fire station area, and 200 mm in the Mankhurd fire station area.

In the western suburbs, Santa Cruz was the most affected, with 216 mm recorded at the SWM Santa Cruz workshop and 214.4 mm at the Coconutwadi School. Additionally, 204 mm was recorded at the Andheri fire station, 193.2 mm at Cooper Hospital, and 192.6 mm at the K-West Ward office.

In the Mumbai city area, the G-South Ward office recorded 187.8 mm, the F-South Ward office 179 mm, the F-North Ward office 175 mm, 173.6 mm at the B. Nadkarni Park Municipal School in Wadala, and 172.8 mm at the Adarsh Nagar School in Worli.

The ongoing rainfall has caused waterlogging in many low-lying areas, affecting traffic in several places. The administration is closely monitoring the situation.

Previously, the IMD had issued warnings for thunderstorms, lightning, winds reaching speeds of up to 60 kilometers per hour, and heavy rainfall in the Mumbai city and suburban areas. The department urged residents to take necessary precautions and avoid unnecessary outings during adverse weather conditions.
