Mumbai, July 2: Heavy rainfall has been reported across several districts in Maharashtra, including Mumbai, over the past few hours. This has led to waterlogging in many areas, causing significant travel disruptions for residents. In response to a red alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for Palghar district, all schools in the area have been closed as a precaution on July 2.
In parts of Mumbai, intense rainfall occurred on Thursday morning, resulting in water accumulation in various neighborhoods. According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the city experienced substantial rainfall in the last 24 hours, with some areas recording over 200 mm. From 8 AM on July 1 to 6 AM on July 2, Mumbai received 134 mm of rain, while the eastern suburbs saw 164 mm and the western suburbs recorded 149 mm.
Meanwhile, continuous heavy rain has been falling in the Vasai-Virar and Nalasopara regions of Palghar district since Wednesday night. Dark clouds lingered in the sky on Thursday morning, with rainfall persisting in several areas. The district administration is on high alert due to the red alert and has closed all schools throughout the district. Authorities have urged residents to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary and to exercise caution.
In Nalasopara, heavy rain began around 6:45 AM on Thursday. Despite the downpour, traffic on the roads remained relatively normal in the morning, with people seen using umbrellas to reach their workplaces.
However, the continuous rain has caused severe waterlogging on many roads in Nalasopara East. This has created significant challenges for pedestrians and drivers alike. Local residents are calling on the administration to expedite drainage efforts.
