Heavy Rain Alert in Raigad: Schools and Anganwadis Closed on July 2

Mumbai, July 2: Due to continuous rainfall in Maharashtra and a warning from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) regarding heavy rain, all schools and Anganwadis in several talukas of Raigad district will remain closed on July 2. This decision was made by the district administration with student safety in mind.

The recommendation for the closure was made by the tehsildars based on ongoing rainfall and the weather department’s alerts. Following this, the district collector reviewed the situation and issued the order.

According to the directive, all Anganwadi centers, primary, secondary, and higher secondary schools in the Raigad district’s Alibag, Panvel, Uran, Shrivardhan, Murud, Tala, and Poladpur talukas will be closed on July 2.

The weather department has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in several areas of the district until July 5, with some places expected to experience extremely heavy rainfall. There are also concerns about intense rainfall leading to flooding conditions.

According to the District Disaster Management Authority, tehsildars have requested school closures in their respective areas due to the continuous rain and prevailing conditions.

The district collector issued this order using powers granted under the Disaster Management Act of 2005 and the regulations of the education department.

However, the order also states that all school principals, teachers, and non-teaching staff must be present during office hours and assist local administration in disaster management efforts if required.

The administration clarified that this decision was made with student safety as a priority, and the situation is being monitored closely.

The weather department has predicted heavy rainfall in several cities across Maharashtra, prompting high alert warnings for various locations. In light of these warnings, the Raigad administration has declared a holiday on July 2.
