Heavy Rain Alert Issued for Mumbai and Maharashtra Until July 6

Mumbai, July 1: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall in Mumbai and several parts of Maharashtra over the next few days. IMD Director Bikram Singh stated that rainfall activities are expected to intensify from the evening of July 2, continuing at least until July 6. He urged residents, especially those in low-lying areas, to remain vigilant and follow administrative advisories.

In an interview, Singh noted, “In the past 24 hours, Mumbai and its suburbs have recorded good rainfall, with heavy showers in several locations. Monsoon activities have remained consistently active over the last two days. However, the situation is currently under control in low-lying areas that previously faced flooding issues.”

According to Singh, “The weather department forecasts an increase in rainfall intensity starting the evening of July 2. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely on July 3, with some areas possibly experiencing extreme downpours. The impact of the rain will be widespread, affecting many parts of the state.”

He added, “Continuous heavy rainfall over the next two to three days could lead to flooding in low-lying regions. Residents in these areas should exercise caution. Often, heavy rain occurs late at night or early in the morning when most people are asleep. Therefore, citizens are advised to monitor weather warnings and avoid unnecessary outings.”

Singh also mentioned, “Rainfall activities will persist from the evening of July 4 through July 6, with good rainfall expected across various parts of the state for four to five consecutive days.” He described this period as significant from a meteorological perspective, emphasizing the need for both the administration and the public to remain alert.

He further indicated that not only Mumbai but also several districts in central Maharashtra will experience increased rainfall activities. The impact of rain is expected to intensify in the Nashik and Vidarbha regions after July 4.

Residents in these areas should stay alert for potential flooding, traffic disruptions, and other weather-related issues. The weather department is closely monitoring the situation and will provide necessary updates as needed.
