Monsoon Sessions First Week in Parliament Disrupted by Chaos

New Delhi, July 24: The first week of the Monsoon Session in Parliament was marred by chaos. Not a single day saw the Question Hour or Zero Hour proceedings in either the Rajya Sabha or Lok Sabha. This situation persisted on Friday, with both houses unable to conduct the Question Hour due to ongoing disruptions.

During this time, the opposition reiterated that they would not engage in discussions until Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigns. The uproar on Friday prevented the Question Hour in the Lok Sabha, and the same scenario unfolded in the Rajya Sabha. Shortly after the session began, the noise and commotion forced both houses to suspend proceedings until noon. Following this, the Lok Sabha’s session was adjourned until Monday.

Outside the house, opposition MPs chanted slogans demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi also called for Pradhan’s resignation, stating that discussions could only occur after his departure.

In the Rajya Sabha, as Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge stood to speak shortly after the session commenced, the uproar between the ruling party and the opposition escalated. Kharge echoed the demand for the education minister’s resignation while addressing the students protesting at Jantar Mantar and the actions taken against them. Due to the disruptions, the Rajya Sabha session was suspended until noon. When proceedings resumed, Kharge insisted that the education minister should resign and the government must provide a statement on the matter. However, chaos erupted again, leading to another suspension of the session.

In the Lok Sabha, as soon as proceedings began, opposition members started shouting slogans. Several MPs rose from their seats, causing further disruption. The continuous interruptions led to the suspension of the Lok Sabha session as well. A similar situation unfolded in the Rajya Sabha, where ongoing deadlock prompted yet another adjournment. Throughout the week, the chaos significantly impacted the Question Hour, Zero Hour, and other legislative activities during the Monsoon Session.
