Weather Alert Issued for Several States, Heavy Rain and Strong Winds Expected

Mumbai, July 1: The Meteorological Department has issued a warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall in the coming hours. Thunderstorms, strong winds, and lightning are expected across several states during this period.

According to the department, areas in Maharashtra including Mumbai, Mumbai Suburban, Palghar, Thane, and parts of Gujarat such as Amreli, Bharuch, Bhavnagar, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman, Dangs, Diu, Gir Somnath, Junagadh, Navsari, Porbandar, Rajkot, Surat, Tapi, and Valsad may experience winds reaching speeds of up to 60 km/h, along with heavy rainfall (over 15 mm/hour) and lightning. A red alert has been issued for these regions.

Meanwhile, an orange alert has been declared for many parts of the country, where thunderstorms, lightning, winds at speeds of 40–60 km/h, and moderate rainfall (5–15 mm/hour) are anticipated.

Regions under the orange alert include East Garo Hills, North Garo Hills, Ri Bhoi, West Garo Hills, West Khasi Hills in Meghalaya, and several districts in Uttar Pradesh such as Ambedkarnagar, Amethi, Ayodhya, Azamgarh, Bahraich, Barabanki, Ghazipur, Gonda, Hardoi, Jaunpur, Lakhimpur Kheri, Lucknow, Mau, Pilibhit, Pratapgarh, Prayagraj, Raebareli, Sant Ravidas Nagar (Bhadohi), Shahjahanpur, Shrawasti, Sitapur, Sultanpur, Unnao, and Varanasi.

Additionally, an orange alert has been issued for Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg in Maharashtra, as well as Anuppur, Balaghat, Dindori, Jabalpur, Katni, Mandla, Shahdol, and Umaria in Madhya Pradesh.

In Gujarat, districts such as Ahmedabad, Anand, Botad, Chhota Udaipur, Dahod, Devbhoomi Dwarka, Jamnagar, Kheda, Narmada, Panchmahal, Vadodara, and in Uttarakhand, Champawat, Dehradun, Nainital, Rudraprayag, Tehri Garhwal, Udham Singh Nagar, and Uttarkashi, along with Jammu and Kashmir regions including Anantnag, Baramulla, Budgam, Ganderbal, Kishtwar, Kulgam, Kupwara, and Shopian, are also under orange alert.

Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions. People are advised not to seek shelter under trees or weak structures, avoid unnecessary travel, stay updated on road and traffic conditions, and follow the advice of relevant agencies.
